Position Summary : Performs faculty duties in the Department Aeronautics and Astronautics, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Graduate School of Engineering and Management's Department. The position is full-time, Schedule A Excepted Service Appointment NTE 3 years.
Position can be extended without any further competition or announcement and is not intended to become or convert to a permanent appointment. Academic tenure is based upon performance and approval of the faculty and may be considered after the initial or subsequent 3-year period. Selectees may be offered a reduced tenure time clock if their academic credentials warrant. (Salary will be pro-rated based on a 10-month duty period after 2 years).

MAJOR DUTIES :
Instructs doctoral and master of science students in basic disciplines of all programs offered by the department and graduate courses in Satellite Systems Design and Control, communicating both theory and applications representing the current state of knowledge in Space Systems Design and Control.
Develops research topics and advises students in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and in other departments of AFIT as the need arises.
Carries out research in Satellite Systems Design and Control and presents the research results to the scientific community by way of oral presentation and through publication in scholarly professional journals.
Provides services to the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and other departments at AFIT and to Air Force organizations.
Contributes to curriculum, including the development of courses in Satellite Systems Design and Control, and to the planning of student programs.
Participates on committees and with faculty governance.
QUALIFICATIONS : Applicants must have: An earned Doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering or other closely related field of engineering is required, with the doctoral dissertation in the areas of Satellite Systems Design and Control or closely related area.
At the Assistant Professor rank :
Applicants at this level should have a strong potential for both teaching and research at the graduate level.
At the Associate Professor rank :
An initial appointment to the academic rank of Associate Professor must be based on convincing evidence that the applicant has demonstrated excellence as a teacher, as a scholar, and as one who provides effective service. The applicant must have six years of significant professional experience after having earned the doctoral degree. These will normally include no fewer than three years of full-time university-level teaching at the Assistant Professor rank or higher. Alternatively, for those with fewer than three years of teaching experience, the requirement is six years of significant professional experience with research credentials normally expected of a Full Professor.

Qualifications:_ _ _ Government and/or military experience is desired, and satellite design and/or satellite operations experience is highly desired. United States citizenship is required for the position. Must possess or be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.
The demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters is required.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
