Innovative Scientific Solutions Incorporated (ISSI) is an engineering research and development company providing innovative measurement and instrumentation solutions in the areas of Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics and Combustion Analysis.
ISSI supports DoD, NASA, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other federal customers, as well as U.
S.
industry and academic laboratories.
The high-speed systems division within ISSI conducts hypersonic vehicle research and development for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
ISSI seeks a highly motivated individual for a Research Technician role in the Mach 6 Ludwieg Tube (M6LT) located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.
The M6LT Technician will operate the facility, conduct preventative and corrective maintenance, plan and execute requested upgrades, install and connect test models, diagnostics, and instrumentation, and support the lab network used to execute research.
Roles and Responsibilities Operate AFRL High-Speed Aerodynamics Branch's M6LT Configure and install tunnel components (model mount, windows, etc.
), test models, and sensors Set up and operate the various diagnostics commonly used in the M6LT, i.
e.
schlieren, Focused Laser Differential Interferometry (FLDI), IR thermography Solder connections for sensors and other electrical components When facility issues arise, identify the source and determine and implement solutions Design and complete minor upgrades/improvements to M6LT and laboratory equipment Work with various vendors to procure quotes for custom and COTS items Coordinate with outside individuals/organizations that use the M6LT to ensure that test articles are properly integrated into the M6LT in a safe manner Optimize/improve isolated lab network US citizenship required Desired Knowledge/Experience 8-15 years of experience in a research facility or wind tunnel, or the ability to learn responsibilities quickly Experience or knowledge of low- and high-pressure pumps and systems (vacuum pumps, compressors, high-pressure piping, sealing, etc.
) Electrical experience or knowledge:
soldering, basic circuit design, low-voltage systems, AC up to 480 V Experience or knowledge of high-speed wind tunnel diagnostics, i.
e.
schlieren, Focused Laser Differential Interferometry (FLDI), IR thermography Experience or knowledge of PLC and PID controllers- hardware and programming Experience or knowledge of mechanical design and CAD Experience or knowledge of computer networking Applicants must be US citizens, pass a drug test, and be able to acquire security clearance.
