Summary
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.
Program of Instruction
Training Locations: Dayton, OH & Alexandria, VA
For this internship, SkillBridge intern will train as a Machinist within HII-Mission Technologies (HII-MT), reporting to a designated HII-MT Supervisor, with the goal of learning Machinist basics and principles. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3-4 month target)
At the end of four months, the intern will be able to develop skills needed to be presented with a problem, design solutions, fabricate the solutions, test the product, and make alterations based on feedback.
The intern will develop a good understanding of the machinist equipment and welding basics. This includes:
o Operation, configuration, and maintenance of Machinist equipment.
o Design, Fabrication, testing, and customer interaction
o Author, review, and edit technical analysis reports.
Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the SkillBridge intern and considers the SkillBridge internship an overall positive experience.
Training Plan
Phase 1 - Basics
Week 1: In processing, Introductions/office familiarization.
Week 2: Introduction to the various equipment used within the machine shop as well as the applicable safety measures required for operations and presence within the machine shop.
Week 3: Intro to basic equipment operations and maintenance
Week 4: Intro to historical problems presented and solutions designed, fabricated and tested to solve the particular problem
Phase 2 - Designing a Solution
Week 5: Familiarization with requirements development process when a problem is presented
Week 6: Familiarization with Design Process
Week 7: Familiarization with Material Selection
Week 8: Operating machines to execute design (week 1 of 2)
Week 9: Operating machines to execute design (week 2 of 2)
Phase 3 - Testing, Quality, Customer Feedback
Week 10: Developing test plans for the product
Week 11: Execute testing and quality checks
Week 12: Engage with customer for final product feedback
Week 13: Author, review, and edit analysis reports and product alterations if required

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
