Major duties and responsibilities include:
Clinical Responsibilities (90% of time) Serves as Team Member for an inter-professional clinical team:
Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI), co-located with the Primary Care medical teams, with an emphasis on integration of mental health services within primary care. As a full clinical member of the PC-MHI Team, provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services appropriate to the primary care setting, especially in the areas of general psychological evaluation of emotional and behavioral problems and focused cognitive assessments. Provides a full range of psychological interventions consistent with training and expertise, with special emphasis on brief and evidenced-based interventions found to be effective in primary care settings. Facilitates patient and family education appropriate to the primary care setting and the specific presenting mental or behavioral health issues. Provides consultation services for primary care providers to maximize the effectiveness of their interventions in reducing health-risk behaviors and enhancing health-promoting behaviors, with a significant emphasis on a prevention-oriented model of care. Supports PCP decision-making, building on PCP interventions and improving PCP-patient working relationships. Provides clinical care management when appropriate directly to an assigned cohort of patients. Provides the expertise and leadership so that the integrated care and collaborative practice model is fully implemented, allowing patients to remain with their Primary Care Provider (PCP) for the full range of their health care needs to the extent that this is clinically appropriate. Administrative/Program Evaluation/Outcome Measurement/Research (5% of time) Participates in clinical care management functions with members of the PC-MHI Team. Shares responsibility for team building. Actively works to support program planning, outcome evaluation, and staff development activities. Supports the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements if/when these become required for the clinical performance measures or best practice guidelines, using a data-driven quality assurance process. Monitors and establishes procedures to contribute to the improvement of population outcomes for both general primary care patients and for disease-specific populations (diabetes, hepatitis C, hypertension, COPD). Participates in program-wide outcome evaluation studies. Academic/Teaching/Training:
(5% of time) Provides consultation and training to Primary Care Service Line staff in the identification and management of common mental and behavioral health disorders that present in a primary care setting. Develops programs together with other PC-MHI staff members for teaching and/or improving the PCP's core behavioral health skills. Supervises pre-doctoral and practicum Psychology trainees and may participate in the supervision of trainees in other disciplines, including medical and psychiatric residents assigned to the Primary Care Service for rotations. Develops and/or makes available relevant education and training programs for all Primary Care Service Line providers to ensure that culturally competent care is provided. Is involved in the development and on-going improvement of the Psychology Training Programs and actively participates in the Psychology Training Committee meetings. Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff on issues related to the function of the PC-MHI Team, and may provide in-service and/or invited grand round presentations to the medical center staff in areas directly related to the mission of the PC-MHI Team. Grade distinctions:
At the GS-13 level, you would be performing the above duties and responsibilities as an independent licensed provider. At the GS-11 and GS-12 levels, psychologists function under the supervision of a licensed psychologist unless independently licensed and credentialed and privileged by the Medical Center. You must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR, Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully completed a respecialization program meeting both of the following conditions:
a) the respecialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; and b) the specialty in which you were retrained is consistent with the assignment you are am applying for; OR, Have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution, with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature. Internship Requirement:
You must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed; OR, New VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern; OR, VHA facilities that offered full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement; OR, Applicants who completed an internship that was not accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed may be considered eligible for hire only if they are currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. (NOTE:
Once board certified, the employee is required to maintain board certification); OR, Applicants who have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature may fulfill this internship requirement by having the equivalent of a one-year supervised internship experience in a site specifically acceptable to the candidate's doctoral program. If the internship experience is not noted on the applicant's official transcript, the applicant must provide a statement from the doctoral program verifying that the equivalent of a one-year supervised internship experience was completed in a site acceptable to the doctoral program. Licensure Requirement:
Candidates must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Exception:
Non-licensed applicants who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate psychologist at the GS-11 or GS-12 grade under the authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 (c)(2)(B) for a period not to exceed two years from the date of employment on the condition that such a psychologist provide care only under the supervision of a psychologist who is licensed. Failure to obtain licensure during that period is justification for termination of the temporary appointment. Grade Requirements:

at least 2 additional years of experience, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 level To be creditable, psychological work experience can be obtained through paid or non-paid employment providing psychological work or through participating in a supervised postdoctoral psychology training program (i.e., fellowship or residency). Psychological work experience must have occurred after the doctoral degree was obtained. Examples of such experience include but are not limited to the following psychology-oriented job duties:
providing professional clinical services, conducting research, carrying out education and training activities, carrying out program evaluation activities, clinical consultation, supervision and administration. Experience is only creditable if it is post-doctoral experience as a professional psychologist directly related to the duties to be performed Reference:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
